EUROPEAN DAY OF LANGUAGES

The European Day of Languages is celebrated every year on 26 September. 🌍📚

It was established by the Council of Europe in 2001, during the European Year of Languages, and has been celebrated annually ever since.

🎯 Main objectives

• Promote language learning at all ages.
• Celebrate cultural and linguistic diversity in Europe (there are more than 200 European languages!).
• Encourage multilingualism, showing that speaking several languages improves communication, job opportunities, and intercultural understanding.

• Europe is home to 24 official EU languages and many regional/minority ones.
• More than 60 regional or minority languages are spoken in Europe (e.g., Basque, Catalan, Welsh, Sami).
• Multilingualism helps strengthen cognitive abilities, creativity, and social skills.
